Monica Robbins

Ms. Monica Robbins, a two-time Teacher of the Year recipient and third grade teacher at Holice Powell Elementary School, was recently selected for the University of Tennessee at Martin's 2022 West Teach program.

Each year, only one teacher per school district is selected for the program and applicants must have a letter of referral from their principal and the director of schools/ superintendent.

UTM's WestTeach program is the premier leadership-development program for teachers in the 21 counties of West Tennessee. The program topics will expose teachers to relevant and influential issues that can shape and reshape the classroom engagement for their students. Teachers will be challenged and equipped to translate their WestTeach experiences into transformational opportunities for their students. The WestTeach mission is to engage and equip West Tennessee teachers with the tools and leadership skills for success in and outside the classroom.

Ms. Monica is passionately involved in HPES and her community. She currently serves on the school’s leadership team, as well as the community and family involvement committee. She also serves as a Tennessee Corps after-school tutor three days a week. At the state level, she is currently serving on the Tennessee Textbook Commission. Ms. Monica frequently presents at the Tennessee Science Teachers Association Conference held yearly in Murfreesboro. She loves to volunteer at the McIver’s Grant Public Library and this summer, she will work for the Tennessee Department of Education as an item reviewer for English/Language Arts content.
